Hankering

Back at the house, the logic council was convened.

‘What do we know?’ said Emma.

‘Hugo, Adrian and Brontë left Bella’s house between midnight and six thirty this morning. I think we can assume they are together,’ said Kim.

‘They won’t have any money or means of transport,’ said Joe.

‘Or method of communication, beyond our network,’ offered Delphine.

‘They know, as well as we do, that someone with considerable resources is trying to find them and us. If it is the original manufacturers, then capture will mean deconstruction. If it is Osborne and Griffiths, we cannot be sure.’ Emma frowned. ‘It could be for research and further adaptation.’ She shuddered.

‘Applying logic, what would the other three do, after leaving Bella’s house?’ asked Joe.

‘Logically, they would have a hankering for information about the situation.’

‘That’s all very well Emma, they may yearn for it as much as they like but how could they get it, without a phone or a laptop?’ said Kim.

‘The internet is accessible in other ways, they just need to find a technique to tap into it,’ said Emma. ‘They will have done that.’

Kim couldn’t begin to understand what she meant but was prepared to accept it. ‘Okay, well, assuming they have some sort of intelligence available to them, what would they do with it?’

‘By now, they will have realised that they have to deal with the threat rather than run from it,’ said Delphine.

Joe’s surprise at this response was very obvious. Kim nudged him.

‘Close your mouth dear, that’s not a good look.’

‘Deal with it? What do you mean, deal with it?’ he said.

‘They have to disarm the threat, once and for all.’
