‘My main concern is whether the others have been able to find shelter and sufficient nourishment while staying safe,’ said Xavier. ‘I fear if Osborne and Griffiths find them, they will take them back to the facility and reprogram them.’
‘Where are they?’ Joe couldn’t resist asking. ‘Not an address, I mean, but roughly which area?’
‘They decided to hide in plain sight,’ came the unexpected reply. ‘There is a distribution warehouse on the site of a decommissioned power station, not far away. In their last report they said they had found an area inside where robots and humans are working in sync and they are trying to blend in and source what they need to survive.’
‘You’re talking about the old Littlebrook site,’ said Joe. ‘I know where that is, it’s next to the Dartford Crossing. Enormous place. I’m sure I read somewhere it’s bigger than six football pitches.’ He sat back smiling. ‘The kind of operation where you can order everything from glue sticks to swimming pools.’
Xavier nodded. ‘And spare parts like knees and shoulders.’
