Kim thought of the extra enhancements she knew about. She’d seen Xavier get that cctv picture of Delphine in the mortuary onto Joe’s laptop - how had he done that? And then there was hypnosis, kinetic ability, speed of knowledge absorption, inventions and who knew what else? She brushed it to one side to worry about later. Right now, her priority was Joe.

‘What makes you think this person can help us get Joe back? And if he can, what will he want in return?’

‘I’d like to know the answer to zat one too,’ said Jean-Claude.’

‘Until we ask him, we won’t know. Xavier’s response was cool and calm. He had had plenty of time to think about this and Euron had prepared the ground well. Now it was just a question of letting events roll out as they had planned.

Alain spoke for his fellow clones. ‘Will engaging with this other person be dangerous? It’s bad enough we have to stay away from Osborne and Griffiths. Are we going to set ourselves up with even more problems?’ 

‘I ‘ave never heard of this person. I never saw such a person come into the facility,’ said Jean-Claude, ‘so ‘ow did he set up ze communication with you?’

‘Look, we’re wasting time,’ said Kim. ‘We can debate this until the cows come home but the bottom line is that Joe could be in danger and we’re not one hundred per cent sure where he is. If Xavier thinks this person can help us, I vote we ask him.’ She looked around the table. ‘If you want to leave for another place of safety, please do so, but right now, I will take any help that is offered.’
